We hired Sills Landscape Design to come up with a new design for our front and back yards. Andrea was Very Profession and she is Very Knowledgeable with plants. Andrea was wonderful in listening to what we wanted and took our words and designed a concept from our words. The terrain she had to work with was a bit of a challenge, part hill, part septic drain field, but she did an amazing job blending everything together so that it flowed and did not look odd. The concept was changed several times during construction due to request by the county or our contractor. She pitched right in as if we were not bothering her and gave advice or redrew the plan. Andrea did an amazing job designing the landscaping for our Sunset Cliffs home in San Diego. The project included Mediterranean style retaining walls, three outdoor fireplaces and fire pits, multiple fountains, a built-in jacuzzi, an ocean-view deck with exposed beam arbor, a romantic bench swing, an outdoor kitchen, numerous stone and granite features, and an extensive array of lush trees, plants, and ground cover. Eight years after she completed the project, we still get frequent complements from guests. Our home faces the ocean with spectacular views, yet we constantly see passers-by pointing their cameras away from the water to take photos of our home as they comment on various landscaping features. Every step of the way, Andrea was a delight to work with. She started by fully understanding the experience we wanted to create, and how we envisioned using each of the outdoor spaces on the property. Her process included a detailed assessment of interior view angles, the lines-of-sight guests would experience from multiple vantage points throughout the terraced property, and the type of hard scape features and plant life that would integrate well into both the style of the house and the surrounding terrain. It was such a pleasure to work with Andrea on our landscaping project. She has a wealth of experience and a rare combination of both architecture and landscape design and it is absolutely evident when you see her designs and vision. I was so fortunate to first learn about Andrea Sills on Nextdoor who had completed numerous projects in the Point Loma area for extremely satisfied clients who raved about her work! What first struck me about Andrea is that she captured my vision even though it took several iterations to realize what it was that I wanted!! She took into account everything in my front and back yard environments--color, shapes, hardscape, design and decor, location of neighboring properties and went way beyond the actual horticulture plan I thought we would be limited to! After having a front lawn for 30 years we decided it was time to ditch the grass and redo the landscape with a water conservation design. The landscape contractor we selected for our project recommended we have a design created by Sills Landscape Design, who he has previously worked with many times on these types of projects. We contacted Andrea Sills and discussed our ideas for this project. Andrea listened intently to our objectives for the design for our cul-de-sac front yard and provided her initial thoughts on hardscape features and suggested an appropriate mix of low water use plants for the planting areas and existing flower box. We were immediately impressed with Andrea’s knowledge and methodology for performing landscape design, so we contracted her to do our project. Andrea took measurements of the front yard configuration and in a few short weeks produced a detailed design layout, complete specifications for hardscape materials, soil preparation, plant selections and locations, and drainage requirements. The design includes a dry creek bed the length of the yard with a faux “waterfall” feature that adds visual interest to the creek bed and includes specifications for the rock and boulder types used. The planting layout includes colorful focus areas, including yellow flowing Sundrops that complement the color pallet of the overall design. These design considerations demonstrate Andrea’s considerable experience in developing unique plans for each property. Andrea’s design was then executed by our contractor in 20 days and the result is stunning. We are very pleased with every choice she made for color pallet, visual effects, and ease of maintenance.
